You’ll then bring your haul back to your base to craft various items. You’ve even got a nifty tool called the Environmental Analyzer which lets you ping the map to reveal loot. These two concepts go hand in hand once you start gathering materials such as herbs, chemicals, mechanical parts, electronics (called electronical parts in-game), and many other resources.
